【Abstract/講座摘要】
Competition for technological supremacy reminiscent of the U.S.-Soviet conflict during the Cold War era is being fought undergoing US and China conflict over cutting-edge technology fields. What kind of innovation strategy for sustainable growth in an era of high-tech friction? This is the topic of my talk, based on our empirical studies on cross country comparison of innovation process of China, Japan and US. Specifically, we use the text information in both patent and product-related keywords extracted from company’s web site contents to come up with detailed concordance information between technology and products, and compare them across three countries.
According to our study, China becomes to be strong enough to be compared with Japan and US in terms of scientific activities, while there is a lag behind these countries in terms of innovation capacity, i.e. the economic institutions to convert scientific findings to radical innovations. My talk focuses on the role of high-tech entrepreneurship in science based innovation process, and discusses potential policy actions toward strengthen innovation performance in China in an era of high-tech friction.
