The clip, posted by a netizen in Zhejiang province, shows a man sitting in a folding chair while on his phone, with the accompanying caption jokingly describing it as "the correct way to ride a high-speed train".

The video quickly went viral, prompting envy from some viewers who praised the apparent space and comfort, while others — particularly passengers with standing-room tickets — asked how they could replicate the setup.

More skeptical voices noted that during peak travel periods such as the Spring Festival rush, trains are often too crowded to accommodate such arrangements, and questioned whether the use of folding chairs is permitted under railway regulations.

高鐵上是否可以使用折疊椅？2月4日，極目新聞記者致電12306，客服工作人員回應稱，乘客可以攜帶并（在高鐵上）使用折疊椅，但必須符合行李規定。具體而言，折疊椅展開后的尺寸長、寬、高不得超過130厘米，并且在通過車站安檢時必須處于折疊狀態。

In response, staff from the official 12306 online ticketing platform said on Wednesday that passengers are allowed to carry and use folding chairs on high-speed trains, provided they comply with luggage regulations. Under the rules, a chair must not exceed 130 centimeters in length, width or height when unfolded, and must remain folded during station security checks.
