Perched on the edge of a forest in Shoreham-by-Sea, the 1933 Monumentale Bosvilla carries the distinct 印記 of the Amsterdam School, designed by Rot (s) huizen and Wind—the founders of Arnhem’s Buvani firm. For decades, intensive use left its original charm faded, with parts of its structure altered or lost. BNLA architecten took on the privilege of reviving it, not just patching damages, but digging into its history to restore every line and detail to its 1930s glory, letting the villa’s old soul breathe again.

The project’s core challenge lay in balancing two 看似 conflicting goals: preserving the monument’s authenticity and making it energy-efficient. BNLA started with rigorous research—building historians mapped its main form and internal structure, while color experts uncovered the original fa?ade hues to reinstate them. They then added modern sustainability: breathable wood fibers insulated fa?ades and pitched roofs, stained-glass windows got heritage-style insulating glazing, and a ground-source heat pump ensured comfort. Every modern tweak hid gently, never overshadowing the villa’s historic character.

該項目的核心挑戰在于平衡兩個看似矛盾的目標：保留古跡的真實性與實現節能降耗。BNLA 建筑事務所從嚴謹的研究入手 —— 建筑歷史學家繪制出別墅的主體形態與內部結構，色彩專家則找出原始立面色彩并重新應用。隨后，他們融入現代可持續設計：用透氣木纖維為立面與坡屋頂保溫，為彩色玻璃窗加裝符合古跡風格的隔熱玻璃，還配備地源熱泵保障居住舒適度。每一處現代改造都低調隱藏，從不喧賓奪主掩蓋別墅的歷史底蘊。

The villa’s location on a gently sloping forest plot inspired BNLA to turn level differences into a design highlight. From the site entrance, the landscape rises gradually to the main door, guiding visitors naturally. Inside, varying floor levels give each room a unique vibe: the side wing’s double-height ceiling feels grand, while the living room’s slight step down creates intimacy. A new semi-raised terrace bridges the house and the rear garden, letting residents sit and watch forest greenery blend with garden blooms—every step through the villa becomes a journey through changing views.

別墅位于緩坡林地的選址，讓 BNLA 建筑事務所巧妙地將高差轉化為設計亮點。從場地入口開始，景觀緩緩抬升至主入口，自然引導訪客動線。室內不同的地面高度賦予每個空間獨特氛圍：側翼的雙層挑高天花板顯得恢弘大氣，客廳的輕微下沉則營造出溫馨感。新增的半抬高露臺連接房屋與后院，居民靜坐于此，能看到森林綠意與花園繁花交融 —— 穿過別墅的每一步，都成了一場視野不斷變化的旅程。

BNLA’s design wasn’t a one-person effort, but a symphony of expertise. They kept the original layout mostly intact, only optimizing circulation where needed. With interior designers Wonderstruck & Hum Studio, they chose materials like travertine, bronze, and oak, pairing them with natural wallpapers and textiles to add tactile warmth. Landscape designers Donders and van der Heiden woven the terrain’s slope into the garden, while Jobbe Interior Construction crafted custom furniture. Together, they turned the villa into a space where historic details meet modern comfort, and every touch feels deliberate.

They invested time, effort, and resources to make the villa fit for their children, the next generation, while preserving a municipal cultural heritage. Now, the villa isn’t just a private residence; it’s a living monument where nature flows indoors through open windows, and every sunset seen from the terrace feels like a dialogue between the past and present. It stands as proof that historic buildings can thrive in the modern world, carrying culture forward.
