Nestled in Manaus, Amazonas, Brasil, adjacent to an environmental protection area, CASA Cajuí is a private residence designed by K?nigsberger Vannucchi Arquitetos Associados and Laurent Troost Architectures. Built among existing trees, the house embraces nature by leveraging their shade and framing views between outdoor green spaces and preserved areas. Its spatial layout redefines living typology, blurring indoor-outdoor boundaries and fostering a lifestyle deeply connected to the surrounding ecosystem, where every corner breathes with the Amazon’s vitality.

The house’s form is a harmonious response to the site’s natural features. Private and office areas are positioned at the foreground near the street, while social spaces lie at the rear, slightly elevated to serve as a viewpoint overlooking the backyard greenery. A covered outdoor living space takes center stage, becoming the heart of daily life—inviting residents to dine, relax, and gather amid fresh air and rustling leaves. This thoughtful arrangement not only optimizes functionality but also encourages seamless transitions between indoor comfort and outdoor freedom.

The roof stands as a masterpiece of both form and function, designed as a large sloping concrete plane bent to follow the house’s contour. Beyond shielding from the elements, this unique structure creates an unexpected recreational space: residents can climb up to stargaze or simply enjoy the house from a new perspective, merging practicality with poetic charm. The sloping design also maximizes wind and sun utilization, aligning with the project’s commitment to working in harmony with natural forces rather than opposing them.

Sustainability is woven into the project’s DNA, embodying passive environmental principles. A rainwater collection, storage, and reuse system ensures optimal environmental performance, reducing reliance on external resources while preserving the forest ecosystem. Every material and detail is chosen with conservation in mind, reflecting a deep respect for the Amazon’s fragile balance. The house does not merely occupy the land but nurtures it, proving that modern living can coexist harmoniously with nature through thoughtful design.

The design’s emotional value shines through its ability to foster a profound sense of belonging to nature. Floor-to-ceiling windows (implied by the focus on views) flood interiors with natural light, blurring the line between inside and out, while the scent of greenery and the sound of wildlife permeate daily life. Landscaping by Hana Eto Gall and Flora Eto further integrates the house into the environment, with native plants that attract local fauna, creating a self-sustaining micro-ecosystem. For residents, CASA Cajuí is more than a home—it is a sanctuary where they can recharge amid the Amazon’s timeless beauty.

CASA Cajuí is a testament to architectural humility—adapting to the land rather than imposing on it. The collaboration between architects, landscape designers, and engineers results in a space that honors the Amazon’s heritage while meeting modern living needs. It weaves together functionality, sustainability, and emotional resonance, telling a story of coexistence. Here, every sunrise viewed from the elevated social area, every starry night on the sloping roof, becomes a reminder of humanity’s harmonious place within nature.
