Program Introduction
The NSFC Excellent Young Scientists Fund (Overseas) is calling for global trailblazers. It seeks to attract outstanding early-career researchers from overseas—including non-Chinese nationals—who have demonstrated strong achievements in the natural sciences, engineering, and related fields. The program empowers these researchers to join Chinese institutions, pursue independent, innovative research, and accelerate their career growth, cultivating a new generation of top-tier scholars ready to compete at the frontiers of global science and technology.

Applicant Eligibility

Comply with the laws and regulations of the People's Republic of China, uphold high standards of scientific integrity, and demonstrate a strong commitment to research ethics.

Be born on or after January 1, 1986.

Hold a doctoral degree.

After obtaining a doctoral degree, applicants should generally have held formal teaching or research positions at overseas universities, research institutions, or corporate R&D organizations for a continuous period of at least 36 months before June 15, 2026. The requirement on the duration of overseas work experience may be relaxed for applicants who obtained their doctoral degree overseas and have demonstrated exceptional academic achievements.
For applicants who held paid positions simultaneously in China during their overseas employment, the time spent in such domestic positions will not be counted toward the required overseas work experience.

Have achieved scientific or technical accomplishments recognized by peers, and demonstrate the potential to become an academic leader or a distinguished expert in the relevant field.

Have not yet taken up full-time employment in China, or have commenced full-time employment in China on or after January 1, 2025. Upon receiving the award notification, recipients must resign from any current overseas employment and commit to full-time employment in China for a minimum of three years.

Remuneration
Successful applicants will receive a competitive remuneration package, including an attractive annual salary, a tax-free settling-in subsidy, and performance-based incentives. Eligible applicants with postdoctoral research experience may also receive an additional subsidy from the Hangzhou Chengxi Sci-tech Innovation Corridor.

Competitive start-up research funding will be provided, along with access to state-of-the-art research facilities and well-equipped office space.

Team Building
Appointees will be eligible to supervise doctoral students and recruit postdoctoral researchers, with comprehensive support provided by the University and the School.

Housing Assistance
Relocation and housing assistance will be provided, including the option to purchase university-affiliated talent housing under a shared ownership arrangement, access to temporary apartment rentals, and a one-time relocation allowance for candidates relocating from outside Hangzhou. Furthermore, appointees who obtain a tenured position will be eligible to purchase university-affiliated talent housing at preferential rates.

Assistance will be provided for children’s school enrollment, spousal employment, household registration and permanent residence permit applications for eligible foreign nationals, as well as other related services.
