The 70th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW70) concluded successfully on March 19 at the United Nations Headquarters. This year’s session marks the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration, focusing on the priority theme of “ensuring and strengthening access to justice for all women and girls.” Representatives from 193 Member States, along with global NGOs, engaged in extensive discussions on advancing gender equality worldwide.

At the closing ceremony, renowned Chinese American artist and art historian Allen Zhao Qiong, together with internationally recognized host and singer Wang Guoquan—honored by the New York State Senate and the New York City Council—attended as NGO representatives, demonstrating the growing cultural and social influence of Chinese representatives on the global stage.

Allen Zhao Qiong: Advancing Women’s Empowerment Through Art and Scholarship

Allen Zhao Qiong, serving as a UN NGO resident representative, participated in three key sessions during CSW70, including the opening ceremony, major forum events on March 18, and the closing ceremony.

Wang Guoquan participated in the entire CSW70 session as an officially accredited representative nominated by a U.S. 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and formally approved by UN Women.

During the conference, he entered the high-level core delegate speaking area of the UN main hall three times. This area is typically reserved for senior government officials and key institutional representatives, distinguishing it clearly from general observer seating and underscoring the significance and recognition of his representative status.

Notably, he is recognized as the first mainland Chinese male representative approved through an international NGO channel in CSW history. Throughout the ten-day conference, he actively engaged in discussions alongside global delegates, contributing to the review of progress since the Beijing Declaration.

Allen Zhao Qiong has played a leading role in the World Chinese Fine Arts Golden Brush Award, which brings together outstanding Chinese artists worldwide.
