Distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen, good evening!
I am Annie and my Chinese name is Zhang Luyao. I am a high school student from St. Stephen's College in Hong Kong. Standing here today on the podium of the ICA, I feel extremely honored and excited. In the eyes of many, apitherapy is a practice steeped in the ancient wisdom of traditional Chinese medicine. It seems to be a topic mostly concerned with respected elders and experts. It feels like a distant concept for students like us. We spend our days buried in textbooks and navigating math formulas and English vocabulary.
But I want to say this is not the case at all. The first time I encountered apitherapy, it lit a tiny but bright spark in my heart. I was amazed by the humble bee. It is not only a natural craftsman that brews sweet honey but also a "healer of all living beings" that guards health. Within that slender bee sting lies the ancient Chinese philosophy of "harmony between man and nature". It is also a vivid embodiment of the TCM concept that "food and medicine share the same origin". It encapsulates the wisdom of our ancestors. This wisdom is exquisite, profound and deeply connected to all of nature. Yet I also know well that precious TCM treasures like apitherapy are facing the challenge of inheritance. They are like pearls hidden deep in a valley. They are waiting for our younger generation to discover them, polish them and restore their radiance. As middle school students, we are not only the future of our country but also the torchbearers of cultural heritage. If we remain indifferent to these treasures of our own culture, the cultural bloodline accumulated over thousands of years may be broken as time passes. Therefore, inheriting the culture of apitherapy and carrying forward the legacy of TCM must start with us, the youth. This does not mean we need to master the skill of bee-sting therapy overnight. It means we first need to plant the seed of "understanding" in our hearts.
In our spare time, we can read accessible TCM popular science books. We can also share the legends of apitherapy with our classmates. In biology class, we can explore the mysteries of the bee’s life. We can also understand the scientific logic behind apitherapy. In history reports, we can trace the thousand-year development of apitherapy. Even more, we can use our brushes to depict stories of apitherapy. We can use words to record its wisdom. We can also use short videos to help this ancient practice "break through" and spread in the digital age. We are the natives of the digital era. We are best at using innovative methods to inject modern vitality into traditional culture. Every curious question we ask and every sincere share we make are infusing the future of apitherapy and TCM with the energy of youth.
Respected seniors, I earnestly ask for your trust. Please open a door for us to the world of apitherapy and TCM. We are filled with a thirst for knowledge and the passion of youth. Today, we are here to listen attentively and absorb wisdom. Tomorrow, we will surely take over the torch of inheritance with the wisdom and actions of youth. May the "buzzing" of bees echo not only among green mountains and clear waters but also in the hearts of the younger generation. Let this ancient practice merge into the tide of the times. Let it thrive forever and contribute the power of youth to the development of TCM!
With the heart of youth, we pass on the charm of apitherapy! I am willing to be the advocate for apitherapy! Thank you all!
