一般來說，1區期刊都是影響因子很高，影響力很大的期刊。但由于學科特點等方面的原因，也有很多1區期刊的影響因子并不高。
這里主要是人文社科領域的期刊，例如歷史學領域的Textile History，哲學領域的Dead Sea Discoveries，影響因子只有0.1，但依舊榮登1區期刊之列。
自然科學領域，主要是數學領域。數學期刊整體影響因子比較低，因此像Journal of Combinatorial Theory Series B（1.2），Journal Fur Die Reine Und Angewandte Mathematik（1.3），Commentarii Mathematici Helvetici（1.4）等，都是1區期刊。
也有例外的情況，例如綜合性期刊Chinese Science Bulletin-Chinese（1.2），醫學期刊Infectious Disease Modelling（2.5）和生物期刊Avian Research（1.7），雖然上述領域高手如云，但這些期刊也都是1區期刊。
