藝術界近日傳來沉痛消息：前香港藝術館總館長鄧海超先生不幸辭世。噩耗傳來，藝壇同仁無不深感震驚與悲慟。斯人已逝，風范長存，他以畢生心力所鑄就的藝術事業與文化精神，仍在時代長河中熠熠生輝。

The art world has recently received thesorrowful news that Mr. Tang Hoi-chiu, former Director of the Hong Kong Museumof Art, has sadly passed away. The tragic announcement has brought profoundshock and grief to colleagues across the art community. Though he has departed,his noble character endures; the artistic achievements and cultural spirit hedevoted his entire life to continue to shine brightly through the course oftime.

Mr. Tang dedicated many years of service to the Hong Kong Museum of Art. Duringhis tenure, with outstanding scholarship and visionary insight, he wascommitted to advancing both Hong Kong ink art and modern art. With an openacademic perspective and rigorous curatorial philosophy, he planned and lednumerous large-scale exhibitions of lasting influence. These initiativescreated a dynamic dialogue between tradition and contemporaneity in Hong Kongart, while also building a solid bridge for local artists to enter theinternational stage.

What is especially admirable is that even after his retirement, Mr. Tangcontinued to devote himself wholeheartedly—without seeking any remuneration—tothe promotion of Hong Kong ink art. He actively engaged in academic researchand advisory work, and mentored younger generations with great care. Throughboth his words and actions, he nurtured successive groups of promising youngartists. His selfless dedication and exemplary character have become aninvaluable spiritual legacy for Hong Kong’s art community.

In 2023, as an important representative of Hong Kong’s art world, Mr. Tangactively participated in the World Chinese Art Golden Brush Awards and ArtForum, where he delivered a speech of profound professional depth andcontemporary insight. Drawing upon his solid theoretical foundation and richpractical experience, he offered valuable reflections and inspiration for thefuture development of Chinese art, while also demonstrating the responsibilityand commitment of a senior arts administrator.

Looking back on his life, Mr. Tang was not only an outstanding museum leader,but also a vital promoter and witness of Hong Kong’s cultural development.Grounded in scholarship, devoted to art, and building bridges through culture,he connected tradition with the future, and Hong Kong with the world. Hispassing marks a great loss to the Hong Kong art community.
