“彩禮”英文怎么說？真的不是“colorful gift”！

一、彩禮

多彩的是colourful，禮物是gift，“彩禮”不是colourful gift！

color是美式英語，colour是英式英語。

“彩禮”又稱“聘禮”或“聘金”，在英文里的地道表達是bride price。

“彩禮”一般指新郎（bridegroom）根據習俗向女方及其親屬給付的錢（又叫禮金gift money）或實物（gift items），或者兩者都有。而女方新娘（bride）回禮給出的錢或禮物被稱之為嫁妝（dowry）。

bride是新娘，price是價格，bride price的字面意思是新娘的價格。這兩個單詞又短又是生活場景里的調頻詞，所以很容易被人記住。

“彩禮”除了用bride price表達外，還可以說betrothal gifts。因為betrothal gifts這個詞匯是正式場合用詞，所以人們使用它的頻率遠沒有bride price高。

二、訂婚

預訂是order，婚禮是wedding，訂婚不是order wedding！

預訂是book，婚姻是marriage，訂婚不是book marriage！

訂婚在英語里有一個專門的表達：

I'm engaged .（我訂婚了）

或get engaged to sb（和某人訂婚）

Mini V and Anne have formally announced our engagement, but we haven’t yet named the day.

小V我和安妮已經正式宣布訂婚，但還沒有確定結婚日期。

Annie is engaged to Mini V.

安妮和小V（VOA英語城）訂婚了。

After a whirlwind romance, Mini V and Anne are engaged to be married.

在閃電式的戀愛后，小V我和安妮已經訂婚（只等結婚）啦！

訂婚前要準備好訂婚戒指（an engagement ring，a betrothal ring），因為訂婚儀式(betrothal或betrothal ceremony）上需要把它們交給對方的。

訂婚后，男的稱女的是未婚妻 （fiancee），女的稱男的是未婚夫（fiance）。

三、結婚準備

收彩禮可以用ask for 或accept betrothal gifts，送彩禮用present betrothal gifts。送了或收了彩禮了，也預示著婚姻正式開始了。

訂婚后就可以挑個好日子去民政局進行結婚登記（marriage registration），然后領取結婚證（marriage certificate）了。新娘可以穿上（lady’s wedding dress /gown / garment）和新郎一起拍婚紗照（wedding photography）。

四、喜糖

喜是happy，糖是candy，喜糖不是happy candy！

一切辦妥后就可以舉行婚禮（wedding）了。

新婚喜宴前，男方要提前到女方家迎親（fetching the bride）。新娘新郎還要提前邀請雙方的親朋友好在結婚典禮（marriage ceremony）的婚宴（wedding banquet或wedding dinner）上吃喜酒（celebrating at the wedding feast）。

婚宴又叫喜宴（wedding feast），酒席上可以吃到喜糖（wedding candy）。

最后，小V祝所有新婚夫婦白頭偕老（growing old together），愛情天長地久（everlasting love）。
