為什么衛生紙上一定要壓花？

除了無聊時用于欣賞之外，究竟它還藏著哪些“小秘密”？

作為一款優秀的紙巾，上面的壓花圖案，可不僅僅是賞心悅目這么簡單，它的3個隱藏技能，作用可不小呢！

▌固定作用

現在的衛生紙大多是好幾層紙組合在一起的，為確保層紙之間不會滑動錯位，壓花工藝恰好能做到這一點。

壓花的本質是通過模具對紙張施加壓力，在上面壓出想要的圖案，在這個過程中，幾層紙巾之間會被壓出凹凸結構，通過凹面與凸面相互嵌套，能很好地避免多層紙散開。

The essence of embossing is to apply pressure to paper through a mold, pressing the desired pattern onto it. In this process, the layers of toilet paper are embossed with concave and convex structures, which interlock with each other, effectively preventing the multiple layers from coming apart.

壓花的過程

▌增加蓬松度

壓花工藝會對紙張進行拉伸，一定程度上會破壞纖維素的結構，在這個過程中，紙張的蓬松程度也會增加。

The embossing process stretches the paper, which to some extent damages the cellulose structure. During this process, the bulkiness of the paper also increases.

2022年，發表在《聚合物》（Polymers）上的一項研究對比了不同類型的壓花圖案對紙張的影響。

研究結果發現，不同類型的壓花圖案對紙張的蓬松度影響是不一樣的。相比于a、b這樣的云狀圖形，c、d的密集點陣（文章里稱為“微圖案”）對紙張的蓬松度提升更明顯。

這項研究還發現，如果壓花模具的圖案邊緣是“圓滑”的（不是直上直下的），這樣的壓花模具壓出來的紙張蓬松程度更高。

當然，并不是說紙張的蓬松度提升得越高越好。好的壓花工藝會在蓬松度和結實程度之間取一個平衡。如果壓花的過程中對紙張破壞得太過嚴重，雖然能讓紙張的蓬松度提高，但也會讓紙張的機械強度下降過多，導致在使用時紙張易破，從而影響使用體驗。

提升吸水能力

衛生紙纖維里有海綿狀孔洞，水分可以進入這些孔洞中，從而實現吸水。吸水性包括兩方面：吸水能力和吸水速率。

有研究對比了壓花前后紙張的吸水能力和吸水速率，發現壓花能夠增加衛生紙吸水的能力，但是在吸水速率上則不會有太大的改善。

A study compared the water absorption capacity and water absorption rate of paper before and after embossing, and found that embossing can increase the toilet paper's water absorption capacity, but does not significantly improve the water absorption rate.
