當地時間12月25日，美國總統特朗普發表聲明稱，在其命令下，美國當晚對尼日利亞西北部極端組織“伊斯蘭國”相關目標發動軍事打擊，稱此次行動“強力且致命”。
特朗普在聲明中表示，該地區的“ 伊斯蘭國 ”武裝長期針對當地平民發動襲擊，造成大量人員傷亡。
